Mrs. Mary Jean Bryars Walker, 71, of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM EST on Friday, January 6, 2023, at First United Methodist Church located at 1600 Sandfort Road Phenix City, Alabama 36869, with Dr. Jeff Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Phenix City, AL.
Mrs. Walker was born in Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late Virgil R. Bryars and Vivian E. Powe Bryars. Mrs. Walker was employed by the Phenix City Board of Education as a Teacher and Media Specialist until her retirement. Mrs. Walker achieved her Bachelors Degree in Education and her Masters Degree in Library Science from Auburn University. She also achieved a Masters Certification in School Administration from Troy University. Mary Jean enjoyed going to Callaway Gardens, fishing, camping, photography and high school sporting events. She also enjoyed the Columbus Symphony and people watching. Above all, she enjoyed her family especially her granddaughter.
Those left to cherish Mrs. Walker’s memory is her loving husband of 44 years Howard Douglas Walker; sons Douglas Bryars Walker, of Phenix City, AL and Daniel Hilton Walker of Phenix City, AL; sister Nancy Virginia Barfield and her husband Johnny of Lloyd, FL and granddaughter Ava Mae Walker.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to First United Methodist Church or Columbus Hospice in honor of Mary Jean Walker.
