Mary Nell Holmes

Mary Nell Griffin Holmes, 79, of Columbus, GA passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Graveside services will be held 12:00 Noon EST Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Lakeview Memory Gardens according to Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.

Mrs. Holmes was born June 10, 1936 in Columbus, GA to the late Tice Singer Britt Griffin and Mary Virgie Purvis Griffin.  She was a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother whom was deeply devoted to her family.  She enjoyed fellowshipping, sewing, reading, and dancing, and was a Baptist by faith.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyce Holmes, and a sister, Earlene Griffin Flanagan.

She is survived by two sons, James Bruce Holmes and wife Sherry of Panama City, FL, and Michael Holmes of Smiths Station, AL, sister Dorothy Jean Griffin Goss of Columbus, GA, brother, Tice Griffin of Eufaula, AL; four grandchildren, James Christopher Holmes, Serena Holmes, Sarah Holmes, and Ethan Holmes; nieces and nephews, Caron D. McNeil, Cathy Jean Goss Nail, Patricia Blair Littrell, Rickey D. Blair, and Vickie Anderson, numerous other loving family members, and many caring friends.
