Mary O. Gunter

Mrs. Mary O. Gunter, 82, of Ft. Mitchell, AL passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA, following a short illness. 

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am EST on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gunter was born December 25, 1937 in Ariton, AL, daughter of the late Dawson Ziglar and Bennie Ruth Sinn Ziglar.  She was a dedicated homemaker, who enjoyed her family and friends.  Nana loved all of her grandchildren unconditionally.  The door to her home was always open for them.  They enjoyed one glass of Kool-Aid and a few cookies, along with conversation.  

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Mertie Rex Gunter; a sister, Gloria Willoughby; a son, Johnny Gunter; and granddaughter, Tiffany Jo Stokes.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her children, Gary Gunter, Sherris Ponce (Arnaldo “Rico”), Larry Gunter (Cindy) and Belinda Harris; sisters, Becky Wallace (Juan), Frances Moates (Ronnie); a brother, Byron Ziglar (Linda); grandchildren, Christopher Gunter, Johnny Gunter, Mekenzi Hicks, Emily Gunter, Ty Cook, Kolby Cook, Jose’ Ponce, Andrea Morgan; one very special great-granddaughter, Maria Jo Senior (Bebe); several other extended family and friends.
