Mary Alice Taunton

Mary Alice Taunton, 83, of Phenix City, Al, entered her heavenly home on September 22, 2024. Mary Alice was born on October 10, 1940, to the late Cleo and John Taunton in Phenix City, Al. She graduated from Central High School and retired from Family Dollar as a cashier after 26 years. Mary Alice attended North Phenix Baptist for many years and devoted her life to serving God. Later she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church until her passing. Mary Alice was little but feisty. She loved going to the Columbus Cottonmouths and Columbus River Dragons hockey games with her dear friend Janet from 1997-2020. Mary Alice also loved to see Disney on Ice and attended senior citizen sewing and knitting classes. She enjoyed socializing, often going shopping and out to eat with friends. Mary Alice will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. 

Mary Alice Taunton is preceded in death by her parents, Cleo Fowler and John Robert Taunton; grandparents; and brothers, Crawford Taunton and Louis Treadaway (Willene).

Mary Alice Taunton is survived by a very special friend, Janet Knox, and many other dear friends and church family.

A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Hwy 431 N, Phenix City, Al 36867 on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
