Mattie Lee “Kitty” Stewart Everritt, 99, of Phenix City, AL died peacefully while at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA on Sunday, June 05, 2022.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Thursday, June 09, 2022 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Randy Comer officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Ms. Everritt was born October 10, 1922, in Coffee County, AL daughter of the late Joseph Henry Stewart and Mattie Temperance McWaters Stewart. She had retired after 26 years with Winn Dixie as a Head Cashier. Ms. Everritt was known as “Miss Kitty”, and everyone wanted to get in her check out line. Ms. Everritt had lived in Phenix City for over 75 years and attended River of Life Church and Golden Acres Baptist Church. “Nanny” or “Nanny Poo” was an accomplished seamstress, cook, gardener and excellent homemaker, but most of all she was a “wonderful mother and grandmother”.
Ms. Everritt was preceded in death by her parents, a son William “Max” Everritt; five brothers, Charlie, Frank, Bill, Lamar, and Henry Stewart; four sisters, Pauline Grace, Sally Mae Hollingshead, Alice Johnson and Lula Mae Anderson; a grandson, Kevin Ashley Everritt.
Survivors include her daughter, Gail Comer (Ben), Phenix City, AL; two sons, Ken Everritt (Marcia), Salem, AL and Ricky Everritt (Lola), Phenix City, AL; one brother, Clayton Stewart, Phenix City, AL; daughter-in-law, Diane Everritt; seven grandchildren, Ron Evans, Keith Evans, Bill Everritt, Clint Everritt, Christi Holt, Eric Everritt, and Adam Everritt; 12 great grandchildren, Megan Schott, Hayden, Coleton, Justin, Jackson and Chloe Evans, Maddie, Carter and Sadie Everritt; Allie Holt, Ace and Fin Everritt; one great-great grandchild, Kaden Schott; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
