Mattie Kirkland Kite

April 8, 1920 — June 30, 2015

Mattie Kirkland Kite, 95, of Fortson, GA, passed away peacefully at Columbus Hospice House with her children by her side Tuesday, June 30, 2015. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday July 3, 2015 beginning at 10:00 A.M. EST at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. EST at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA, 31907.

Mattie Kirkland Kite was born April 8, 1920 in Cottonwood, AL. daughter of the late Tom Kirkland and Jennie Kirkland. Mattie enjoyed traveling, shopping, and relaxing at the beach with her family. Mattie lost her mother at an early age in her life. She took over the role of mother and caregiver to her two brothers. She continued this act of love her entire life with her children and grandchildren. Mattie loved her gospel music. She was a member of First Christian Church of Phenix City. Mattie Kirkland Kite will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, sister, and caring friend.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her dearest husband Harold Kite; Brothers, Oscar Kirkland of Cottonwood, AL, and Otis Kirkland of Phenix City, AL.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Frieda Hicks of Fortson, GA; son, Wayne Kite and wife Cathy of Mitchell, GA; devoted grand daughter, Laura Bailey of Phenix City, AL; and nine additional grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and six, great-great  grandchildren.
