Maurice Douglas Sanders

Maurice Douglas Sanders, 86, of Phenix City, AL passed peacefully early Sunday morning at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA while surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EST Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Randy Comer officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.

Mr. Sanders was born June 14, 1931 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Troy C. Sanders and Etoile Maynard Sanders.  He retired from Civil Service as Chief of Quality Assurance at Ft. Benning, GA with 35 years of loyal service.  He served our country proudly and was a Veteran of the United States Navy.  He enjoyed church fellowship, fishing, and spending quality time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a member of River of Life Church in Phenix City.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Adkins, and Cynthia Sanders.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Shirley Mae Chestnut Sanders, two daughters, Sheril Sanders Stamp and husband Paul, and Lori Sanders Jackson and Husband Michael, all of Phenix City, AL; one sister Billie Ledford of Maryville, TN, (5) grandchildren, Jason Stamp (Amy), Brandi Stamp Lancy (Nathan), Reed Jackson (Amanda), Karli Jackson Beason (Joel), and Troy Jackson, (8) great grandchildren, Banks, Ellison, Brody, Sam, Jolie Kate, Jackson, Brooklyn, and Avery, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.  Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to River of Life Church in Phenix City.  Online condolences may be shared at www.vancememorialchapel.net
