Melissa Gail Kirkland

Melissa Gail Kirkland, 48, of Columbus, GA passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital.  A funeral service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, December 23, 2019 beginning at 2 pm. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

Melissa was born on August 19, 1971 in Columbus, GA. Melissa’s life work was being a mother to her two children. She had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her children and grandchildren, visiting the beach and serving any and everyone in need. Above all, Melissa loved and cared for her family. She adored being a mother and grandmother and always put family first. Words cannot express how much she will be missed but Melissa will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her family, friends and others whose lives she touched. 

Survivors include her mother, Cynthia Burkett; daughters, Savannah Stewart (Frank Jr.) and Kristen Kirkland; sons, Jaxson Chambers and Kevin Kirkland; sister, Denise Killough (Jeremy); soulmate and life partner, Larry Kirkland; grandchildren, Carter Kirkland, Amelia Stewart, and Bentley Swift; nephews, Devin Killough and Lawson Killough; all of Columbus, GA. Melissa will be rejoicing in heaven with Jesus and her beloved dogs; Sparky & Prissy.
