Michael Raymond Merrill Berg

Michael Raymond Merrill Berg, 42, of Opelika, AL died peacefully surrounded by family while at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL on Monday, September 11, 2023.

A Private Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.

Michael was born February 9, 1981 in Minneapolis, MN son of Kenneth “Ken” Berg and Lois Lorraine Merrill Berg. He was a Master Carpenter by trade working for himself and other local contractors. Michael was a creative genius when it came to wood and how to use it to its fullest potential. He was a loving son, devoted father, and committed friend. The physical buildings and structures he helped to design and build will continue to stand as a tribute to him, but the memories we shared with him will always be cherished in our hearts.

Michael was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and the mother of his children.

Survivors include his parents, Ken Berg and Lois Berg; a son, Drayden Michael Berg, Opelika, AL and a daughter, Greenleigh Elizabeth Berg, Smiths Station, AL; two uncles, Don Merrill and Rick Berg; two aunts, Connie Johnson and Diane Picha; cousins, Christoher, Matthew, and Nicole; several other family members and friends.

The family wishes to thank the Deputy Sheriff who was first on the scene, the EMT’s who took Michael to EAMC, and the Doctors and the team at East Alabama Medical Center for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
