Milbris Catherine Carpenter “Millie” Shaw, 85, of Phenix City, AL went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Gentiva Hospice House in Columbus, GA while surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life service will take place 4:00 pm EST Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Boyd Cochran and Rev. Ed Bradley officiating. A private interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery on Monday. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 pm EST prior to the service at the funeral home. Millie was born June 5, 1930 in Blue Springs, AL, daughter of the late Lee “Oscar” Carpenter and Allie Beatrice Campbell Carpenter. She was retired from Independent Life in Columbus, GA and was loving wife, mother, and grandmother whom was deeply devoted to her family. Her joy in life was to see her family succeed, she enjoyed church, Gospel sings, cooking and fellowship. Millie was a former member of Smiths Station AARP, Smiths Station Ruritan Club, Senior Citizens for Meals on Wheels, and served on several campaign committee’s in the Smiths Station community. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and attended Pierce Chapel Assembly of God Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by (8) brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 ½ years, James Edward Shaw of Phenix City, AL; sons, Charles Shaw of Smiths Station, AL, Dwayne Shaw and wife Kim of Smiths Station, AL, Roger Shaw and wife Melissa of Paducah, KY, one brother, James Carpenter and wife Mildred of Dothan, AL, sister-in-law’s, Evelyn Carpenter, Maxine Carpenter, Laura Enfinger, and Lena Shaw; loved as a daughter, Sheila Spivey Shaw of Smiths Station; AL, (9) grandchildren, Wanda Barefoot (Chris), Sandra Fowler, Karen Zuanich (August), Dana Carter (Peyton), Steven Shaw, Drake Shaw (Jessie), Victoria Shaw (Caleb Yon), Kollan Shaw (Sarah Seaton), and Tori Shaw, (13) great grandchildren, Kayla, McKenize, Kiley, Kirsten, Alexis, Jeremiah, Madison, Augie, Lillian, Leland, Thomas, William, and Keagan and two more on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to Pierce Chapel Assembly of God Church or the American Heart Association in memory of Millie Shaw.
