Mildred Вђњmillieвђќ East Durham Smith

Mildred “Millie” East Durham Smith, 92, a long-time resident of Columbus, GA passed into heaven Monday, May 22, 2017 at Magnolia Manor.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, May 27, 2017 beginning at 11:00 AM EST with the Reverend Thad Smith  officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday, May 26, 2017 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.  

Mrs. Smith was born September 10, 1924 in Phenix City, AL to the late Ben East and Sallie Hodge East.  She was employed by Kirven’s, Eagle and Phenix Mills and First Federal S & L.  After retirement, she worked for MCSD briefly.  Mrs. Smith was active in the BPW and Order of the Eastern Star.  She loved the Lord and enjoyed serving in her church as a Sunday School teacher at Eastway, Edgewood and Gentian Baptist churches.  She currently attended Morningside Baptist Church.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, especially the Iris flower and spending time with her family. 

Other than her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her first husband, J. Fred Durham, Jr. and her second husband, Walter T. Smith and her grandson, Jeff Durham IV.

Survivors include her son, James Fred Durham, III (Martha); her daughter, Sallie Durham Nelson (LTC. (Ret.) Samuel); a granddaughter, Talena Nelson Smith (Brandon) and her daughters, Kadence and Millie of Williamson, GA; a grandson, Bo Durham (Kimberly) and their children, Bennett and Jillian and grand daughter, Marie Taylor Durham (Kerry) and their children, Dene, Garrett and Caroline.

Flowers will be accepted and donations may be made as a memoriam to the library at Morningside Baptist Church Library, 6065 Morningside Dr, Columbus, GA 31909.
