Mildred Lucille Clegg Capps, 93, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Parkwood Healthcare in Phenix City, AL.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am EDT on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside.
Mrs. Capps was born June 2, 1924 in Girard, AL to Roy H. Clegg and Allie Lee Greene Clegg. She was a devoted homemaker, and a lady full of grace, devotion, and love, whom loved her family deeply. She enjoyed tending to her rose garden, cooking, arts and crafts, and spending time with all her grandchildren. She served as a former Sunday school teacher, and was a member of St. James Freewill Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Thomas Capps, Sr., (5) sisters, Elizabeth Adams, Helen Davis, Catherine McConnell, Dot Adams, and Connie McCormick, and (4) brothers, Leroy (Bunk) Clegg, Ralph Clegg, Jerry Clegg, and Bobby Clegg.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynda Carpenter and husband Jimmy of Stockbridge, GA, and Jeannie Smith and husband Cliff of Phenix City, AL, two sons, John Thomas Capps, Jr. and wife Stacey of Slidell, LA, and Billy Wade Capps of Anderson, SC; (12) grandchildren, Debbie Jones (Dennis), Dwayne Stiff (JoAnn), Darren Stiff (Shea), Brandi Thomason (Jack), Ryan Smith, Candi Messer (David), Crystal Stone, Kim Greene, Winston Capps, Kristopher Capps, Charles Capps (Summer), and Amanda Fernandez (John), (16) great grandchildren, Josh Myers (Shauna), Savannah Jones, Madison Riley (Jon Patrick), Hannah Thomason, Brittni Morris (Brandon), Sean Stiff, Colby Smith, Meredith Smith, James Paul Capps, Brianna Stone, Hailey Stone, Riley Stiff, John Fernandez, Ashleigh Greene, Jeffery Greene, and Daniel Jones, (5) great great grandchildren, Emori Capps, Lilith Capps, Caiden Morris, Jacob Morris, and Mac Meyers, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
A very special thank you to all the Parkwood Healthcare staff and Columbus Hospice staff for the tender care and love shown for Mrs. Capps. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Columbus Hospice in memory of Mrs. Mildred L. Capps.
