Mildred Mitchell Walker was born on October 5, 1931 in Columbus, GA to John Mitchell and Amanda Mitchell. After the death of her father, when she was a young child, her mother remarried, and her stepfather Henry K. Jones helped raise her. She attended Muscogee County Public Schools. Mildred received a certificate in Sewing from Columbus Tech.

She married Henry P. Walker on September 1, 1951. She was baptized into the Church of Christ on South Street in 1958. She parted this life Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

A Christian woman, an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, Mildred absolutely adored taking care of her family. She said that raising FIVE children WAS her career. She was very active at all her children’s schools. One year she even served as PTA President. She was a volunteer at the Muscogee County School District Sara Spano Clothing Bank. Mildred volunteered at Muscogee Manor Nursing Home for over 20 years. When possible, she brought a few of the residents over for a home cooked meal.

For fun she enjoyed playing board games, hosting visitors, gardening, walks at Cooper Creek Park, and watching Westerns and game shows. She always had a witty remark to make. Making others laugh made her happy.

For forty years she was a preacher’s and/or Elder’s wife for the following congregations of the Church of Christ: South Street -now located on Cusseta Road, Glenville, AL -now located in Georgetown, GA, and Forrest Road -located in Columbus, GA. Sister Mildred Walker was a member of Cusseta Road COC at her passing.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Evangelist Henry P. Walker, Sr., son Henry P. Walker, Jr., sisters Dorothy James, Wynderlyne Lynn, and Hattie James, and brothers Roy Mitchell and John Mitchell.
