Millard Bruce Herring of Dixie Community passed away at the age of 104, at Magnolia Manor, Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT, on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with Reverend Mike Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EDT, at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Herring was born September 12, 1910 in Russell County, AL, the son of the late Joseph Tarpley Herring and Sarah Elizabeth Edwards Herring. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and taught the Men's Bible Class for many years, serving as a deacon for 79 years and always doing things for his church.
Mr. Herring farmed in the Dixie Community until 1944, thereafter; he began working for the ASCS (Agriculture Stabilization and Conversation Service). In 1960 he became the Executive Director for Russell County retiring from the ASCS in 1978 after 34 years of excellent service.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae Herring, son Charles C. Herring, son-in-law Joe McCurry, Sr., and 6 siblings.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeannette McCurry; daughter in-law, Linda Herring; 4 grandchildren, Malinda Evans (Scott), Clint Herring (Cristen), Lynn Causey (Michael), and Joe D. McCurry, Jr. (LeeAnn); 9 great grandchildren, Brett Evans (Ashley), Bart Evans (Heather), Cara Herring, Cate Herring, Heath Causey (Amy), Tyler Causey, J.W. McCurry III, Sara McCurry, and Brady Maxwell; 3 great great grandchildren, Parker Evans, Ethan Evans, and Addyson Causey; many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
