Mrs. Helen T. Flowers, 79, of Seale, AL passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm (EST) Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Brady Baird and Rev. Sammie Turner officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the next day at 11:00 am at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, GA with Rev. Earl Justice officiating.
Mrs. Flowers was born August 18, 1941 in Thomasville, GA, daughter of the late Paul Tucker and Daisy T. Hester. She worked for over 10 years with the Chamber of Commerce in Thomasville, GA and then retired as an Executive Vice President after 17 years with the Chamber of Commerce in Columbus, GA. Mrs. Flowers was instrumental in facilitating several programs with the chamber and was passionate about Leadership Columbus, Partners in Education and the Chamber’s relationship with the military. After retiring from the Chamber, she worked for many years at the Georgia Welcome Center and also at Seale Baptist Church. Mrs. Flowers volunteered for many years with the Russell County Shelter for Battered Women and was also a member of Seale United Methodist Church. Her greatest accomplishments were surviving cancer two times and being a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Other than her parents and step-father, W. J. Hester, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Paul Tucker and William T. Tucker; and a son-in-law, Gilbert Thornton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jimmy H. Flowers of Seale, AL; a son, Hank Flowers and wife Kitty of Fortson, GA; a daughter, Penny Flowers Harper and husband Tracy of Evans, GA; one sister, Sharon “Cissy” Lowe and husband Bobby of Thomasville, GA; three brothers, Reid Tucker and wife Bonnie Cairo, GA, Joe Hester and wife Paula of Boston, GA and James Hester and wife Robin of Pavo, GA; grandchildren, Kimberly Martin (Tim), Amanda Chamberlain (Dustin), Tyler Flowers (Ashley), Stanley Thornton (Charlotte) and Megan Harper; great-grandchildren, Clara, Ellie, Rykin, Skylar and Haley; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
