Ms. Vernie Mae Tyler Brown Cantrell, age 100, of Powder Springs, GA, and formally of Phenix City, AL passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Silver Comet Village in Powder Springs, GA
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EDT on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Steven Faulk officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm EDT on Wednesday at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Ms. Cantrell was born May 24, 1923, in Pike County, AL, daughter of the late M. Tyler and Cora Melissa Dunn Tyler. She had worked as a beautician with Downtown Beauty Salon in Columbus, GA for many years and was retired. She had the gift of a green thumb. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden, flower garden, raising chickens, cooking from her vegetable garden, and especially making homemade biscuits for everyone and seeing a big appreciation of a happy face. Her greatest joy was sharing stories and memories and spending time with all her family. She attended Ladonia Baptist Church for many years in Phenix City.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Roland Brown, and Robert “Bob” H. Cantrell; daughter, Linda Durden; son, Robert H. Brown; five sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Amy Willis and husband Dan of Powder Springs, GA; sister, Malvena Davis of Glenwood, AL; daughter-in-law, Patty Brown of Smiths Station, AL; five grandchildren, Keith and his wife Phyllis, Tracie, Danny and his wife Dana, Todd, and Meridith and her husband Scott; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
