Newton Keith “Snooky” Griggs died peacefully on May 25, 2015, in Columbus, GA, at the age of 77, with his wife and daughter at his side.
Mr. Griggs is survived by his wife of 55 A½ years Nellie Griggs; a daughter, Twila Schneider (Todd); a brother, Frank Griggs (Gloria) and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Angie Cochran; a grandson, Daniel Keith Cochran; his parents; and 4 sisters.
Mr. Griggs was born on May 18, 1938, in Phenix City, AL, to Raymond and Carrie Griggs. He graduated from Central High School in 1957. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and Reserves from July 1957 to May 1962.
Mr. Griggs was retired but had previously been employed at the Coca-Cola Company (Columbus, GA), CB&T of Russell County (Phenix City, AL) and Vance Memorial Chapel (Phenix City, AL). He was a life-long active and dedicated member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City. He served on numerous committees at Epworth but was proudest of being Head Usher.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EDT, at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 11:00 am EDT at Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City. Burial to follow at 2:00 pm EDT at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. Flowers are accepted but donations can also be made to your favorite charity.
