Norma Jean Jergens, age 96, resident of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, July 27,2023 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus. Cryptside services will be held at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum, Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 3,2023 with Reverend Grace Burton-Edwards officiating. Immediately following the service at Chapel of the Pines on Thursday, August 3, 2023, a Memorial Service will also be held in her honor at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
Mrs. Jergens, daughter of the late Albert Felder Pounds and Olive Eudene Allen Pounds, was born April 12,1927 in Magnolia, Mississippi. After marrying, they decided to make Columbus home. Norma retired from the Fort Benning School System in 1985. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Windsor Park Garden Club. She was also a member of the ABWA Muscogee Chapter, volunteered at the Humane Society for several years, and beginning in 1989 was a volunteer at Columbus Hospice. Norma was an avid bridge player and belonged to several groups. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV and going fishing. When at home, she would always look forward to giving her family loving attention, particularly preparing meals. The family remembers her as a lady who was always generous.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Fredrick Jergens. Norma is survived by a stepson, Lowell F. Jergens, Jr. of Columbus; sister, Merle Matthews of Varnado, Louisiana; nieces, Brenda and Donna; nephews, Bennie and Charles; many other relatives and friends.
