Opal Lee Deaton

April 29, 1927 — January 23, 2016

Opal Lee Deaton, 88, left this world and entered the heavenly world on Saturday morning, January 23 at 4:40 AM. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Sandy) and Rodney (Donna), eight grandchildren, (Lance, Brian, Jeremy, Neal, Samuel, Ashley Deaton McMakin, Scott and Tyler.) and 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She's also survived the three siblings, Bobbie Eads, Louise Hall, and Ronnie Breland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carver Deaton, who died in 1994.

Opal was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on February 9, 1927. She married Carver Deaton on February 9, 1946. They live most of their lives in Columbus, Georgia. Carver had a distinguished military career and a successful business.

Opal was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother in a Christian servant. As a result of her devotion to Jesus Christ, her husband and sons came to know Him. We are eternally grateful for her love and example.

Opal was an active leader at Midway United Methodist Church in Columbus. She taught Sunday school and VBS for many years. She was also involved in missions, Bible studies and United Methodist Women. She also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Her family would like to thank all her friends at Midway for their love and support over the last 60 years! A special thanks to her pastor, Rev. Paul Buckheister and his wife Patti.
