Mrs. Opie Lee Helms, 90, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Kindred Hospice in Columbus, GA while surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held 12:00 noon EDT Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel (Vance Brooks Funeral Home) in Phenix City with Rev. Grant Parker officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon EDT, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Helms was born June 26, 1928 in Edwin, AL to the late Ira Tew and Ila Price Tew. She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who was deeply devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, and sharing special times and moments with her family and all her grandchildren. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City. Mrs. Helms was a lady of great character always making sure that her family’s needs were met, and making everyone feel loved and welcomed. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nell Reeder, and Janet Hovey.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 70 years, Ralph Jackson Helms of Phenix City, AL, daughter, Robin Helms Bohren and husband Korey of Fort Mitchell, AL, two sisters, Sue Barnes, and Alice Baxley, both of Phenix City, AL; two grandchildren, Jason Carpenter, and Kelli Rhodes, and two precious great grandsons, Dalton Rhodes, and Dylan Carpenter, and a host of extended family, church family, and many caring friends.
