Oscar Lovett Massey

Mr. Oscar Lovett Massey, 80, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 surrounded by his family.
A private graveside service with Air Force Honors will be held at 2:00 PM (EST), on Thursday, April 01, 2021 in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Alabama with Rev. Richard Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at Vance Brooks Funeral Home at 3738 Hwy 431N Phenix City, Alabama from 12:00 PM till 1:30 PM (EST) on Thursday.
Oscar was born December 23, 1940 in Phenix City, Alabama to John T. Massey and Kathryn Strickland Massey. The second brother of six, Oscar was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph “Jack” Massey, and is survived by his brothers Jerry (Margie), James (Linda), Charles, John T. (Linda); and sister-in-law Glenda S. Massey; his daughter Jennifer Massey Blyler; and his son Steven Massey; his grandchildren Lori Lynn Blyler Kicklighter (Nichols), Brenda Blyler and mother of his children, Linda Dasinger Massey; his great grandchildren Chase, Payton and Jordyn; His large extended family includes many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces all of whom he cared about deeply.
He attended schools in Columbus, Georgia and finished at Baker High in 1960. After completing a term of enlistment in the United States Air Force at Glasgow AFB, Montana, he returned to Columbus and joined the Muscogee County Police Department. Oscar moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1971 working for Kinnett Dairy. He later worked for RC Cola for several years and then drove a motor vehicle carrier until his retirement. He moved back to Phenix City, AL in 2009. He was active in his local church until his health failed.
Oscar was a jovial and fun-loving man. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a loving heart. Always quick with a laugh, was a friend to all, and he never met a stranger. His generous spirit, kindness, and sense of humor will be remembered by everyone whose lives he touched.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to his nieces, Donna Hester, Laura Massey Moon, Jerri Mooney and great-niece, Kensley Moon for providing excellent care to him these last few months.
