SFC (Retired) Otis Hampton Carter, Jr., 69, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Friday evening, March 30, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home (Vance Memorial Chapel) in Phenix City with Pastor Mike Reeves officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.
Mr. Carter was born October 14, 1948 Leaksville, NC to the late Otis Hampton Carter, Sr. and Frances Nance Fannin. Mr. Carter served our country with honor and was retired from the United States Army with 20 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge 304 in Columbus. He enjoyed hunting and was passionate about fishing. He was blessed with many professional fishing friendships across the country. He was a Baptist by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Clark Carter, and a sister, Debra Zieglar.
He is survived by his children, Tasha Carter, and James Carter, both of Smiths Station, AL, two sisters, Carolyn Spangler and husband Ceward, and Linda “Tootie” Miller, (6) grandchildren, Isaac, Austin, Matthew, Elyssa, Sebastian, and Cessali, and one precious great granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Carter, very special friend, Butch Henry and wife Sandra, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
