Phenix City, AL

Patricia Crow McElwee, 76, of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday morning, August 23, 2024, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA while surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am EST on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Pastor Jonathan Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to her memorial service from 10:00 to 11:00 am EST at the funeral home in Phenix City. 

Patricia was born February 25, 1948, in Century, FL, daughter of the late Fred Crow and Sybil Nicholas Merritt. She was a lady of simplicity, always cherishing special moments with her grandchildren and all her family. She enjoyed fellowship with her close friends, always finding opportunity for fun events and laughter. She loved baking goodies for people and special celebrations and gatherings and was well known in the surrounding community as the “cake lady”, baking multitudes of cakes for many of the local restaurants fulfilling taste buds across the Chattahoochee Valley. She was a special lady and a Christian by faith

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Harry L. McElwee; her siblings, Bobbie June Grattet, Hurston Nicholas, and Freddie Crow; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Nicholas; brother-in-law, Lou Grattet, Sr., and nephew, Lou Grattet, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Hudson and husband Josh of Smiths Station, AL; son Bryan McElwee of Phenix City, AL; two precious grandchildren, Braden Hudson, and Bella Hudson; nieces, Darlene Grattet, Ruthanne Kelm (Jeff), and Allison Nicholas (Cecil); nephews, Allen Nicholas (Debra), Wayne Waldrep, and Stacy Waldrep; sisters-in-law, Sandra Crow and Phyllis Ivy (Bill); her pet dog Ginger along with numerous other extended family, and many caring friends.
