Patrick Valére McGinness, Sr., “Val”, 67, of Columbus, GA passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his residence in Columbus, Ga. A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST with Bear O’Brian Mark Cantrell speaking. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.
Val was born September 1, 1948 in Warrensburg, MO to the parents of the late Wilber Frank McGinness and Gladys Alexander Ruther. He was a member of the Rose Hill Masonic Lodge 484 F&AM and also a Shriner in Columbus, GA. He was a well-known radio personality and morning show host. His voice was also known voice-overs in television for locally produced television advertising that he continued to do until his death. Val was employed at PMB Broadcasting. He won several awards as a radio personality including being nominated in the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. In his younger years he was a boyscout and Scout Master.
Survivors include his son, Patrick V. McGinness, Jr. (Soulmate, Joy Marye Williams) of Columbus, GA; two step daughters: Andra Little Aheaume (Shawn) of Charleston, SC and Julie Downdee of Columbus, GA; a brother, Clay McGinness of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren: Savannah Sue McGinness of Columbus, GA and Blake Valére Simmons of Phenix City, AL; three great grandchildren: Addie Mae Flemming, Brantley Boyd Flemming and Bralynn Sky Faught.
