Retired First Sergeant Paul James Ried, of Ellerslie, GA, passed away July 21, 2015. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday July 27, 2015 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, beginning at 12:00 P.M. EST, interment to follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. EST at the funeral home. Paul Ried was born October 19, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio. Paul was the son of the late Paul Ried and Helen Weekley Ried. Paul served our country proudly for 21 years in the United States Army, including two tours during Vietnam, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Paul retired from the Army in 1979 then worked 19 years for the Civil Service at Ft. Benning, GA. Paul was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Paul was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV, relaxing with his favorite T.V. shows or a good book. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Ried; daughter, Paula Ried McFarland; son, James Ried; grandchildren, Brittany and Cody Ried, and Matthew and Terry McFarland. Paul also leaves behind numerous loving extended relatives and caring friends.
