Pauline “Polly” Sammons Newton, 90, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EST Wednesday, January, 14, 2015 at Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City. A private burial will held Wednesday afternoon at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday morning. Mrs. Newton was born April 5, 1924 in Olive Hill, KY to the late Estill Sammons and Leatha Jesse Armstrong Towler. As a young girl, she was raised by her mother and step-father, Jack Armstrong who loved her and was extremely devoted to her. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed camping, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sweet Spirits Choir and a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Other than her parents and her step-father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Newton, two sisters, Edwina Moccabee and Ruth Hignight and a grandson, Mark Newton. She is survived by her children, Genith Dean Newton Lamarca and husband Kenneth of Jonesboro, GA, James “Jimmy” Edward Newton and wife Patricia of Baxley, GA, and Martha “Molly” Newton Joiner and husband Derek of Conyers, GA; four grandchildren, Tony Lamarca (Joyce), Scott Greer (Katy), Kendall Joiner, and Amy Newton Sikes (Don), Six great grandchildren, numerous other loving family members and many friends.
