Peggy Forehand Lauder Dozier died at home on Friday, November 18. She was born in Hurtsboro, Alabama on February 24, 1938 to William Perry Forehand and Verbie Windham Forehand.
Peggy attended Auburn University and majored in Elementary Education and Literature. She was active in many organizations, including her beloved Chi Omega Sorority. There she met and married Robert (Bobby) Lauder, a star running back on Auburn's 1957 national championship football team. They had two sons, Robert (Bo) Lauder (Peter Weiss) of New York, New York and David B. Lauder of Washington, DC. Bobby Lauder died in an accident in 1974.
After spending several years teaching, Peggy started a new career in banking, first at Farmers and Merchants Bank and then later at CB&T. Starting as a teller, Peggy retired as a Vice President. She forged her career during a time that women in senior positions in regional banking were rare.
Peggy was a life-long member of the Hurtsboro United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and, at various times, served on the Board, the Pastor-Parish Relationship Committee, and the Worship Committee.
In the mid-1970s she also served on the Hurtsboro City Council where she was an advocate for preservation and the beautification of the town. Giant live oaks in various parts of town are testament to her work. Peggy was involved in too many civic and charitable organizations to list, but she loved being of service and she adored the many friends she made along the way.
In 1994 she married John Nelson (Bubber) Dozier, the love and companion of her later years. They split their time between Hurtsboro and Orange Beach, where they also have a home. He survives her as does her brother, Perry Brooks Forehand (Kathy Jo) of Columbus, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening at Vance Memorial Chapel from 4 until 6 CST (5-7 EST). Funeral services will be Monday, November 21st at 2:00 CST (3EST) from the Hurtsboro United Methodist Church, followed by burial in the town cemetery, where members of her family have been interred for generations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or her Church.
