Peggy Pinkston Allen

Peggy Pinkston Allen, age 75, of Columbus, GA, died on June 12, 2013, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born on January 8, 1938 to Durward D. and Lillian Morgan Pinkston, of Columbus, Georgia. Peggy grew up in Waycross, Georgia, graduating from Waycross High School in 1956. She was an avid genealogist and foodie, and was the author of several books, including A History of John T. Snipes, Chesley B. Snipes and Their Descendants, and Generations' Creations: Treasured Recipes of the Morgan-White Families. She developed her love of writing, editing and research when she served as a secretary in the Russell County District Court, and spent many long hours supporting her family by typing court depositions in the evenings at home. Her children often drifted off to sleep to the mechanical clicking of an IBM Selectric typewriter. But mostly Peggy will be remembered as the faithful wife of F. Wayne Allen, to whom she was married for 53 years, and as someone who cherished truthaЂ”seeking it out and sharing it vehemently, as only she could. Peggy is survived by a son, Mitchell K. Allen, of Fairlawn, OH, and his wife Suzanne Tucker Allen; a daughter, Amy Allen Zabel, of Cataula, GA, and her husband Timothy A. Zabel; a grandson, Daniel J. Allen, of Powder Springs, GA, and his wife Kristin Doud Allen; a granddaughter, Morgan Allen Lasher of Akron, OH, and her husband Matthew C. Lasher; a second granddaughter, Kathryn Allen Pestian, of Akron, OH, and her husband Timothy M. Pestian; a second grandson, Zachary Allen Zabel, of Cataula, GA; a great-grandson, Andrew Michael Richard Allen, of Powder Springs, GA; and a sister, Patricia Pinkston Belew, of Dadeville, AL, and her husband, Don R. Belew. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Wayne Allen, of Columbus GA; a son, Michael Wayne Allen, of Pasedena, CA, and Powder Springs, GA; and a brother, Don Pinkston, of Norcross, GA. At her request, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Rather, Peggy's ashes will be returned to the earth at a private graveside service in the Carden Family Cemetery, Hatchechubbee, AL, and in the lake she built on her family's land in Troup County, Georgia.
