Plummer Jones Sanderlin, 77, passed away on March 17, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital. A visitation will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus on March 23rd from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. An interment service and Military Honors will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. These events stand as opportunities for all who knew Plummer Jones Sanderlin to come together and celebrate the remarkable life he led.
Plummer was born in Windsor, North Carolina, on May 22, 1946 to Alice Watson Etheridge. As a young adult, he made the decision to enlist as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. Throughout his military career, Plummer exhibited unwavering courage and dedication, ultimately retiring as a Master Sergeant and earning accolades for his service during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country and fellow soldiers served as a shining example to all who knew him.
Beyond his service in the military, Plummer was a man of many talents and passions. He found joy in the simplicity of life, with hobbies such as hunting, fishing and manicuring the perfect lawn bringing him solace and contentment. A skilled woodworker, he poured his heart into creating treasures for his beloved family, leaving behind lasting memories through his craftsmanship.
Plummer will always be remembered as a devoted husband to his wife Rebecca Sanderlin, a loving father to his children Pamela Sanderlin Downs (Joseph) and Plummer Jones Sanderlin II and cherished grandfather to Jeannette Cecilia Downs. His memory and legacy will forever be held in the hearts of many including those who held a special place in his life including a wonderful friend Nathan Applewhite as well as Jasmine Conner (Ced), Jeremiah and Joshua.
In the embrace of eternity, Plummer now joins his beloved mother Alice Etheridge and grandson Joseph Clayton Downs. Though they may have parted ways in this world, their spirits remain intertwined with beautiful memories that will never fade.
Plummer's earthly journey may have reached its conclusion; however, his spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
