R.C. Adams (Roddie C. Adams), of Crawford, AL passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA surrounded by his loving family.
A private chapel and graveside services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Steve Williamson officiating.
Mr. Adams was born December 16, 1937 in New Brockton, AL, son of the late Johnnie C. Adams and Ollie B. McClendon Adams. He grew up in Phenix City, AL, lived many years in the Ladonia community and spent the last 27 years on the farm he loved so much in Crawford, AL. He served his country in the United States Army. After his time in the Army, he served in the Army National Guard for 13 years. Mr. Adams worked with American General Life Insurance Co as a manager, retiring after 41 years. He was a member of Crawford Baptist Church and a proud member of the Crawford, AL community. R.C. was very civic minded, always voting and encouraging others to vote. He was one of the original members of the Ladonia Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chairman of the Board for many years. Mr. Adams was also appointed as the very first member of the Russell County Zoning Commission, serving as Chairman of the Board for 20+ years.
R.C. enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, football and farming but his true love was his family and friends. He loved life and took pleasure in the simple things. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an exceptional Dad and Papa.
Mr. Adams was always wise beyond his years, a wealth of knowledge, and was leaned on by so many for guidance. He had an amazing ability to connect with people of all ages and from all walks of life. He genuinely loved people and made everyone around him feel welcome and special. R.C. had such a positive outlook on life, always encouraging others and lending a helping hand when he could. He was loved by so many and the tributes that have poured in since his passing are a testament to what a wonderful man he was, how many lives he touched and how many people were blessed and influenced by him during his lifetime.
Other than his parents, R.C. was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Stroud Adams; his second wife Mary Betty Harrison Adams; four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Adams Carter (Bob) of Columbus, GA, Tammy Adams Williamson of Phenix City, AL; one sister, Margaret Johns (Gene) of Crawford, AL; grandchildren, Staci Allen Putney (Kevin), Kristi Hatcher (Adam), Josh Williamson and Jason Cain; great-grandchildren, Jackson Allen, Jordan Allen, Maddie Smallwood, Mason Hatcher; two step children, Brendan Scott Cain and Colleen Cain; and many extended family members, a wonderful church family and far too many great friends to count.
Social distancing prevents the family from including extended family and friends in the funeral service but the family will be graveside to receive family and friends who would like to drive thru to offer condolences immediately following the graveside service at approximately Noon on Thursday, 3/26. Please do what is best for you and your family and do not feel any obligation to visit as Mr. Adams knew how much his friends and family cared about him and loved him.
