R. T. Wood

R. T. Wood, 94, of Columbus, GA, passed away Sunday, April 01, 2018. A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Wednesday, April 04, 2018 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST with Reverend Bill Mayhew and Chaplain Sharon Smith officiating.  A private interment will conclude the service with immediate family members at Parkhill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 03, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.  

R. T. Wood was born March 1, 1924  in Holmes County, FL to the parents James Irving Wood and Ila J. Wood.  R. T. was a member of Victory Heights Baptist Church . He was employed with Kinnett Dairies for forty-seven years as a salesman and then went on to work at Fred’s Tires for many years.  R. T. enjoyed NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends whom he loved dearly.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.  He will forever be missed.

Other than his parents, R. T. is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Grace “June” Wood; son Roger L. Wood; three sisters, Vonnie Tate, Ruby Worley and Effie Smith; four brothers, Paisley Wood, Leamon Wood, twin brother W. D. Wood and James E. Wood.

Survivors include his daughter, Vicki Franks and husband Herbert of Columbus, GA; son Gary A. Wood and wife Lynn of Havana, FL; daughter in law, Carolyn Wood of Albany, GA; six grandchildren, Chris Wood, Denise Keith, Melissa Holland, Richard Holland, Daniel Wood and Stacia Jones; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
