Roy Cornelious Sharpe, 65, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at his home in Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 2015 beginning at 1:00 P.M. EST at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. Interment immediately following at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Phenix City, AL. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. EST. Roy proudly served his country as an Infantryman for 19 years and 8 months. While serving in Korea Roy was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. Roy also earned the Meritorious Service Medal. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time watching the Atlanta Falcons, Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. His other special interest was looking out for the neighborhood, and supervising all work activities around his house. He loved all of his grandkids unconditionally, and will always be remembered by them as “Paw Paw”. Roy is preceded in death by his Parents John and Ruth Sharpe and son Pete Sanders. Survivors include his loving Wife Mary Sharpe, Sisters; Pearl Branch and Daisy Carson both of Virginia; Brothers, John Sharpe and wife Ellen of Virginia, Calvin Sharpe and Wife Margie of Virginia; Sons, Roy Sharpe Jr. and Wife Crystal of Columbus, GA. David Sharpe of Atlanta, Ga. and Zack Sharpe of Columbus, GA; daughters, BJ Thompson and husband Brian of Phenix City, AL, Penny Hozapfel and husband John also of Phenix City, AL. Roy is also survived by multiple loving Grandchildren. The Sharpe family would like to also say a special “Thank-You” to the all of the Columbus Hospice Staff, especially Karen, Jane, Lynda, and Lauren for all of their love and support. Roy's memory and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
