Ray Douglas "Doug" Mathews

Ray Douglas “Doug” Mathews, 68, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 at his home in Phenix City.

Memorial services will be held 7:00 pm EST Tuesday evening, January 26, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm EST.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm EST Tuesday eveing  prior to service at the funeral home.

Doug was born May 5, 1947 in Elba, AL to the late Gaston S. Mathews and Myrtle Miller Mathews.  He was retired as an automobile sales representative and a Veteran of the United States Air Force.  He loved playing pool, golf, and his many friendships.

He is survived by his brother, Jimmy Mathews of Phenix City, AL, two sisters, Gayle Allen of Opelika, AL, and Brenda Knowles of Phenix City, AL; nieces and nephews, Michele Newsome (Cornell), Scott Messer, Eddie Messer, Paula Messer, and Steven Messer, several great nieces, nephews, and many caring friends.  The family request donations to Ray Douglas “Doug” Mathews go fund me account to help Doug’s expenses.  Online condolences may be made at www.vancememorialchapel.net
