November 2, 1962 — January 7, 2024

Phenix City, AL

Raymond Harold Morgan, Jr., 61, of Phenix City, AL died at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA on Sunday, January 7, 2024 with his loving wife by his side.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Jonathan Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Morgan was born November 2, 1962 in Gadsden, AL son of the late Raymond H. Morgan, Sr. and Eleanor Estes Nunnelley. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Troy University (“Go Trojans”) and his Masters from Columbus Sate University. He spent his working career as a Teacher/Coach impacting numerous lives in the process. Mr. Morgan spent 27 years at Central High School and was a member of the Coaching Staff for the 1993 State Championship team. He was considered the best by both the staff and team members whether it was taping an ankle or providing guidance. After Central High School he joined Chattahoochee High School again imparting his wisdom to young people.

We will remember him as the “King of Dad Jokes” and making others laugh and brightening their day. He was a shoulder to lean on and always dependable.  Our dad was the most intelligent man we know, and we are grateful for the wisdom he shared with us. He always ended every conversation with “I Love You” and really meant it. As a husband he was the “one and only one” and as a Pop, he was second to none. We don’t understand why he was called away so suddenly, but we trust he is safe in Heaven just waiting on the day we join him. By then we are sure he will have lots of new “dad jokes” to share with us.

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr., mom, Eleanor Nunnelley and his Pop, Kenneth Nunnelley; also, his father-in-law, Cecil “Woody” McLemore.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Denise McLemore Morgan, Phenix City, AL; two children, Haley Smith (Dillon), Phenix City, AL and Justin Morgan (Kay-Anne), Dothan, AL; two sisters, Michelle Crane (Cara) and Ellen Robertson (Marty); two precious grandchildren, Mattie-Lee and Owen Morgan; mother-in-law, Shirley McLemore and brother-in-law, Andy McLemore (Montana); several nieces, nephews and friends.
