Retired Sgt Larry Owen Brown

Retired SGT Larry Owen Brown, 79, of Upatoi, GA, lost his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home on October 15, 2014 surrounded by his family. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 beginning at 2:00 P.M. EST, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. Interment will conclude at Palmer Cemetery in Marion County. Reverend Brian Fuller will be officiating services. The family will receive friends Friday evening October 17, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home. Larry Owen Brown was born June 25, 1935 in Columbus, GA son of the late Owen and Melba Brown. Larry graduated from Marion County High School and later Columbus College where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice. Larry was a Columbus Police Officer retiring as a Police Sergeant after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a Baptist by faith; he was a people person and never met a stranger. In his free time he loved traveling to Panama City. Larry had a deep passion for his family, his strength and love will be remembered and carried on forever. Other than his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his brother Johnny Brown. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Brown of Upatoi, GA; daughters, Patti Eaton of Ladonia, AL, Sharon Orvis (Gary) of Columbus, GA; sons, Chris Brown (Judy) of Columbus, GA, Randy Brown of Columbus, GA, and Keith Brown of Box Springs, GA; sister, Elaine Ligon (Hugh) of Cataula, GA; brother, Gene Brown (Brenda) of Box Springs, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Brown Wilkins (Wayne), Jason Brown, Ashley Brown Sawyer (Jamie), Misty Roller (Rick), Ariele Eaton, Cody Brown, Madison Jones , Miranda Brown, and Morgan Orvis; and six great grandchildren. Larry also leaves behind many loving extended family members and close caring friends.
