(Ret) MAJ Garland Deward Parette, 76, of Salem, AL, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015, at his home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night.
MAJ Parette was born February 21, 1939 in Morrilton, AR son of Robert Parette and Pauline Niesler Parette. Garland entered the service as a private twice but because of his determination and skill moved from the ranks of enlisted to officer rapidly, making the rank of E7 before the age of 28. He bravely served in the Army during the Vietnam war earning the Bronze Star as well as many other accolades. After retiring he worked for many years as GM of Fran Cornish Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge before his retirement. He is preceded in death by his father and siblings, Robert Parette, Cecil Parette and Norma Jean Hester.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Josephine Parette; mother, Pauline Parette; children, Charlotte Richmond, Donna Parette and Garland Deward Parette, Jr; sister, Hazel Stroupe; grandchildren, Tyler Parette, Specialist Benjamin Clay Parette, Cassie Parette, Gracie Parette and Daylen Parette; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
