Rev. Henry Bill Tidwell

March 16, 1934 — May 17, 2020

Rev. Henry “Bill” Austin Tidwell, Jr., 86, of Smiths Station, AL stepped into Glory to be with his Savior, Jesus, and his wife, Ms. Dolores.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 21, 2020 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Jimmie Hobbs officiating. A private interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the funeral home. (Please understand we are still practicing social distancing and there may be limits as to the number of guests allowed in the building at one time.)

Rev. Tidwell was born March 16, 1934 in Opelika, AL son of the late Henry A. Tidwell, Sr. and Margaret Jones Tidwell. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran, serving during Vietnam, and later he joined and retired from the U. S. Navy as a Chaplain. Rev. Tidwell served as an Associate Pastor at Midway Baptist Church for many years before finally retiring. He later joined and was active at Lakewood Baptist Church. We will remember his strong and genuine Christian Faith, his love of gardening and watching the birds and enjoying his family to the fullest. His steady guidance and influence will continue to lead his family now and future generations.

Rev. Tidwell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Dolores Easlon Tidwell, a daughter, Ruth Tidwell, and brother, Benny T. Tidwell.

Survivor include his two children, Kay Allison Tidwell Murry (Michael), Smiths Station, AL and Scott Brian Tidwell (Virginia), Salem, AL; two siblings, Belinda Sue Walker (David) and Barry John Tidwell (Ann); three wonderful grandchildren, Katie Ruth Murry-Baxley, Laura Tidwell and Brian Murry (Rachel); four precious great-grandchildren, Brylee, Kayson, Marshall and Kinlee; several nieces, nephews and close friends also survive.
