Robert "Bob" Michael Richardson

Robert “Bob” Michael Richardson, 67, of Columbus, GA passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Sunday, September 8, 2024 beginning at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the funeral from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Interment will take place at Lumpkin United Methodist Church (Wesley Chapel) Cemetery, 1411 Green Grove Road, Lumpkin, GA, on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM. 

Bob was born on December 5, 1956 at Camp St. Benoi in La Forest, France. He was an amazing man with a friendly, outgoing personality and a very generous heart. Bob was gifted in many different areas. Throughout his life, he worked in construction and landscaping, and most recently, he worked at Home Depot. Two of his favorite hobbies were raising English Bulldogs (aka GA Bulldogs) and taking care of his yard. He spent hundreds of hours planting palm trees and exotic plants and enjoyed hand watering his specimen plants. He kept his lawn meticulously manicured to look like it should be pictured in a magazine.

Sports were also in Bob’s list of talents and interests. He played softball for several church leagues for 20 years in addition to playing on several Industrial travel leagues. Bob was usually the manager and his position was pitcher. Bob averaged one or two homeruns per game and hit several hundred homeruns over the fence in his career. No car was safe outside the fence while passing South Common Fields on Victory Drive when he was at bat. Bob enjoyed watching sports and played all kinds of recreational ball. Bob also had a compassion for animals who needed help, and, as a result, rescued several by giving them a home. His actions were simply the reflection of a life lived to serve. Bob’s father was a United States service man stationed in France when he met and married Jhislaine Bernard. Bob was from a military family that was stationed in various places for 20 years, retiring at Ft. Benning.

Bob is preceded in death by his father Robert Richardson and brother Patrick Walter Wright. Survivors include his mother Jhislaine Oro, brother Dan Richardson, nephew Daniel Lee Richardson II, and several relatives on his mother’s side who live in Europe. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal shelter in Bob’s memory.
