SFC (Ret) Robert E. “Bob” Dowling, 83, of Columbus, died Friday October 16, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.
A memorial Graveside service with military honors will be held 10:00 AM Friday,October 23, 2020 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Minister Brent McCain officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home 4048 Macon Road Columbus, GA.
Mr. Dowling was born November 5, 1936 in Williamsport, PA to the late Leslie Dowling and Mable Devine Dowling. He was a SFC (Ret) U.S. Army veteran receiving the National Defense Service Medal; Driver and Mechanic Badge, Driver-W; Good Conduct Medal (6th award); Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; 1 Overseas Service Bar; Expert Qualification Badge (M-16); Expert Qualification Badge (M-14); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (Num 1); NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Num 1). After his Army career he worked as an administrator with the Civil Service.
Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Nancy M. Dowling of Columbus, GA, daughters, Deborah Lynn Dowling-Falso of Columbus, GA and Teri Lynn Christensen of Columbus, GA, a brother, Earl Dowling of Renova, PA, grandchildren, Jacquelyn “Briana” Scott and Robert “Deven” Christensen, great grandson, Dennis James Valentin, III, special nephews, Robby Bailey and Les Prebble.
