Robert Elsmer Wheeler

Robert Elsmer Wheeler, 78, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm EST Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Ron Shirley officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home. Mr. Wheeler was born January 17, 1936 in Troy, AL to the late Arlie Wheeler and Bessie Lee Abercrombie Wade. He retired from Electrolux with 60 plus years of service and was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church in Phenix City. He was a 33rd Degree Mason with the Phenix City Masonic Lodge and a member of Phenix City Shriners. He enjoyed his many friendships and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marye Judd Wheeler and his second wife, Susan Dorrill Wheeler, a daughter, Kay Gibson, and a brother, James Wheeler. He is survived by two granddaughters, Judy Chandler of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kelly Gibson of Evansville, IN, great grandchildren, Ashley, Hayden, Devan, Nolan, and Austin; one step-daughter, Becky Hall and her children, Jacob and Melissa, a very special niece, Rosalyn Hestley and her family, a very close friend and caregiver, Walter Grizzle, numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family members and many close friends.
