SFC (Retired) Robert Kenneth Cooley, 84, of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Pastor Ricky Ward officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.
Mr. Cooley was born April 17, 1932 in Clarksdale, MS to the late Alex M. Cooley and Annie Mae Monahan Cooley Brock. He was retired from the United States Army with 21 ½ years of service serving during the Korean and Vietnam. He also was retired with the ASCS office as a farm crop surveyor. Mr. Cooley served as a past volunteer for the Dixie Volunteer Fire Department and the voting polls in the Dixie Community. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing, animals, and loved the outdoors. He was a Baptist by faith. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Rickey Allen Cooley and Robert Michael Cooley, and two brothers, Norman L. Cooley and Glenn Harold Brock.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Velma Marie Cook Cooley of Phenix City, AL, daughter, Nova Cooley Best and husband Gene of Graceville, FL, son, Daniel “Bruce” Cooley of Columbus, GA, sister, Marilyn Wienke of Vicksburg, MS, daughter-in-law, Sandra Cooley of Smiths Station, AL, (11) grandchildren, (11) great grandchildren and one on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, numerous extended family members, and many caring friends.
