Rodger Dale Dykes

November 15, 1958 — July 14, 2019

Rodger Dale Dykes, 60, of Smiths Station, AL lost his battle of cancer.  He passed July 14, 2019 in the comfort of his home while surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of life funeral service is to be held at 11:00 am EST Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. David Chapman and Rev. David Dollar officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City.

Rodger was born November 15, 1958 in Phenix City, AL to the late Charles Dykes, Jr. and Peggy Annette Day Dykes.  Rodger was employed with Reliance Gas Corporation for 14 years prior to establishing Dykes Towing Service, Inc. Smiths Station, AL.  He loved to work and  was a true workaholic.   One of his hobbies was restoring older trucks and cars and spending time with his buddies.  Rodger had a very generous heart.   He helped many people with different types of needs.   His tenderness and love for people was special.  He was a Baptist by faith.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dykes, and step brother, Steve Owens, and his father-in-law (Frank Melton) and mother –in-law (Anne Melton) and two very dear friends James Cannon and Lavon (Pops) Faircloth.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Pamela Anne Melton Dykes, one son, Rodgerick Dykes,  one daughter, Stephanie Dykes Brockwell, one sister, Janet Dykes Rodgers and husband Cecil of Salem, AL, and one half-brother, Jason B. Dykes of Smiths Station, AL, one step sister, Tina Duvall of Opelika, AL; and one precious beautiful granddaughter, Hannah Brockwell, and adopted  grandson Terry Braswell and wife Brenda Kay, all of Smiths Station, AL; brother in law, Dennis Melton and Ann, Buena Vista, GA; Danny Melton and Kathy, Lipan, TX and sister in laws June Watson and Terry, Cataula, GA; Janice and David Welsh, Fortson, GA;  Irene Melton, Fort Valley, GA; numerous nieces and nephews, one special little running buddy Jessie Sizemore, and his all-time partner in crime and ferocious Chihuahua, Moo Moo and many that just called him Uncle Rodger.  He will truly be missed and remembered by many until we meet again.
