Ronald Eugene Hovey

Ronald Eugene Hovey, 80, of Smiths Station, AL, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Stanley Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Vance Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Hovey was born December 11, 1936 in Louisville, AL, son of the late Ralph Adam Hovey, Sr. and Mary Charles Daugherty Hovey. He worked for the city of Phenix City as a supervisor for the Water Authority for many years. Mr. Hovey served his country in the Georgia National Guard, retiring after 23 years of service and also served as a Captain in the Phenix City Police Reserve.  He coached and was an umpire for the ASA for many years.  Additionally, Mr. Hovey was a member of Christian Heritage Church.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Sarah Hovey and a grandson, Josiah Joshua Hovey.

Survivors include companion and fiancé, Louise Self of Smiths Station; daughters, Sarah Ann Hovey Skelton of Smiths Station, AL, Glenda Sue Hovey Woodrum and husband Kenneth Duncan of Phenix City, AL; a son, Gregory G. Hovey and wife Paula of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Glender Clemmons of Opelika, AL, Betty Grimm of Cussetta, AL and Mary Alice Johnson of Louisville, AL; brothers, James Ellis Hovey of Saraland, AL, Billy Hovey of Smiths Station, AL and Ralph Adam “Marshall” Hovey, Jr. of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Michael Chambers, David Combs, Nicholas Hudson, Jessica Hovey and Joanna Hovey; one great-grandchild, Evelyn Combs, several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
