Ronald “Ron” D. Jones, 64, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2023 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.
Ron was born March 16, 1959 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Glenwood School and was a Christian by faith. Ron was the owner of Ron Jones Designs where he had the honor to design residential homes for 35 plus years helping families and friends with ideas that became a passion of reality of design and love. He enjoyed fishing, relaxing in his recliner, and family vacations. He had a love for refereeing sports, especially high school football and was a AHSAA football official for 32 years. He was a member of the Phenix City Football Association for 26 years. While a member, he served as President and Board Member. He had the honor to serve as a red hat for the state championship games overseeing the timing area, officiate three state championship games, and was selected to become a state officials camp instructor where he guided and directed young men to become stronger football officials. He also used his officiating talents and leadership to serve other areas of the community by working with the Phenix City Boys Club and NAIA college scrimmage games. Ron was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and spent many years traveling to shows across the country. Aside from hauling and supporting his daughter Amanda as she competed and supporting his wife with her traveling tack trailer, he also won an AQHA Congress Championship. He loved animals, especially his dogs Colt, Dottie, Stella, and Hollie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Joe Jones, and a sister, Linda Fox
His is survived by loving wife of 42 years, Charlene Senn Jones, one daughter, Amanda Jones Strickland and husband John, his mother, Ruth Brewer and companion, Richard Chriswell, Gladys Jones, who loved him like her own son; brothers, Danny Jones and wife Leslie, and Drew Jones, sisters, Wanda Farrish, Jan Baird and husband Billy, Patsy Sheppard and husband Wayne, and Carol Guthrie, a grandson, Caleb “Jones” Strickland, and two granddaughters, Hayley Merritt and husband Sean, and Chloe Gaddis, his brother-in-law, Michael Senn, extended family, and many caring friends and customers.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Robert Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm EST prior to service on Saturday at the funeral home.
