Ronnie Garner, Sr. 72, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Tuesday morning in the care of Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EST, on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Vance Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Dewayne Dean officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.
Ronnie was born on June 8, 1944, in Columbus, GA, the son of the late Edgar and Lizzie Garner. He officiated with AHSAA for over 40 years as well as umpiring Jr. College Baseball. “Possum” coached at Dixie Youth and the Boys Club and at Darnell field he coached both Pre-Majors and Majors Baseball. He sold insurance for over 40 years, representing several national and local companies. Ronnie attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Dew Garner; 2 sons, Ronnie Garner, Jr., wife Debra Lynn and Chris Garner, wife Irish; sister, Martha Obert, husband Robert; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea, Haley and Cayden; extended family and many caring friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central High School Athletic Program.
