Rossie “Jewell” Rutledge

Rossie “Jewell” Rutledge, age 93, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at her residence.  Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral, 3738 US Hwy 431, Phenix City, Alabama on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, 12 noon (EST) with Reverend Tommy Poole officiating.  Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Grandsons will be the pallbearers.

Mrs. Rutledge, daughter of the late Roy Burkett Gatewood and Lessie Harrison Gatewood, was born March 28, 1928 in Forest, Mississippi.  She was retired from Sunshine Biscuit where she faithfully worked for over 29 years.  Mrs. Rutledge was a member of Crawford Baptist Church and also member of the Ready Cleaners Sunday School Class.  She enjoyed cooking, crafting, quilting, her family and all things sports.

Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Monroe Rutledge, Sr.; three brothers, Alva Gatewood, Dewey Gatewood, and Howard Gatewood; and two sisters, Leona Gallups and Delsie Moulder.  She is survived by two sons, Bruce Rutledge and his wife Diane of Phenix City, Alabama and Danny Joe Rutledge and his wife Missy also of Phenix City; one sister, Margie Warren of Forest, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Brian Rutledge and his wife Leslee and Darbi Stevens and her husband Allan; five great-grandchildren, Riley (Julia), Reagan, Sullivan, Zachary, and Nelson; one great-great grandson, Kolton; one adopted granddaughter and caregiver Shianne Chambless.
