Roy Frederick “Freddie” Gilbert, III, 39, of Seale, AL passed away in the comfort of his home late Wednesday night surrounded by his loving family.
Freddie was born April 15, 1985, in Phenix City, AL, son of Roy Frederick Gilbert, Jr. and Mona Jean Lawrence Gilbert. From the very beginning, Freddie was a happy child and loved having so many brothers and sisters. Even though he was presented with challenges throughout his life, that did not slow him down. He attended The Haley Center at Auburn University and graduated at the age of 4. When it was time to enroll in public school, he did so with grace and a strong determination. He graduated from Russell County High School, alongside the friends he made throughout his school years.
Even though he wasn't verbal, that didn't stop him from 'supervising' anyone that would permit it. He knew how to take you to what he wanted and could be very insistent, when needed. His favorite color was red, and he loved Coca Cola and French fries. If there was a coke in the house, he would pull you to it and push your hand towards the bottle, if that didn’t work, he would fuss until you gave in. He usually got his way.
He loved to go, it didn't matter where, as long as he was on the road. He especially enjoyed going to the car wash with his mom, the colorful suds, bubbles, and blowers put a smile on his face every time. He loved music and dancing, especially watching his family dance around him acting silly. And let’s not forget his love for any toy that made noise, lots of noise. He was not afraid to press the button, repeatedly, and do not run out of batteries, that would make for a bad day.
He was a child of God and enjoyed the simple things that life offered. To hear him laugh was uplifting to the soul, it was genuine and heartfelt and came from deep. Freddie was special in so many ways, he will always be loved and never forgotten by all that he touched throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Ruby Lawrence, Roy Gilbert, Sr. and Betty Gibson.
Left to cherish his memory is his parents, Roy Frederick Gilbert, Jr. and Mona Jean Gilbert of Seale, AL, five sisters, Vanesa Corbitt and husband, Wayne of Salem, AL, Shondra Nelson and husband Justin of California, Dixie Baxley and husband Justin of Apollo Beach, FL, Tasha Chandler and husband Thomas of Navarre Beach, FL, and Ashley Cook of Plymouth, MI, two brothers, Rick McCormick, Jr. and wife Nancy of LaGrange, GA, and Michael Gilbert and wife Stachelle of Phenix City, AL, numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and many caring friends.
A private Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held by his loving family at 10:00 am EST, August 5, 2024 at His House Church, 200 Lee Rd 386, Smiths Station, AL 36877, where he will be laid to rest in a very special place of remembrance.
