Roy Mitchell Greene Jr., affectionately known as "Mitch," was born on February 23, 1956, in Columbus, Georgia. He peacefully transitioned from this life on January 24, 2025, in his hometown, surrounded by the love of family and the comfort of cherished memories. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1600 5th Ave, Phenix City, AL, on February 15, 2025 at 1:00 pm EST.

Mitch was a proud graduate of Glenwood High School, Class of 1975. He went on to study at the University of Alabama, where he spent two years and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, forging lifelong friendships and experiences. His professional journey began at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Hurtsboro, Alabama, where he served as Vice President. He later embarked on a career in the cable television industry, serving as a board member and contributing to construction efforts at Phenix Cable. In every role, Mitch brought passion, dedication, and the same unwavering commitment that defined his life.

Above all, Mitch was a devoted family man who cherished his relationships deeply. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Janie Moore Greene; the love of his life and mother of his children, Sandy Wyatt Greene; his son, Roy M. Greene III; his daughter, Ashley Gopfert Bressler, and her husband, Adam; his sister, Lynne Greene Frakes, and her family; his brother, David Greene, and his family; his first cousin and best friend, John W. Greene, and his family; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mitch’s warm and loving nature also earned him a special place in the hearts of countless friends and extended family.

Mitch’s interests and passions were as vibrant as his personality. He had an enduring love for the ocean and saltwater, spending countless hours deep sea fishing, scuba diving, scalloping, and spearfishing. He also found joy in the great outdoors, enjoying turkey and deer hunting as well as freshwater fishing. Beyond his love for nature, Mitch was a passionate historian and treasure seeker, delighting in the thrill of discovering historical artifacts and the stories they held.

A man of faith, Mitch was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church. His values and spirit were shaped by his unwavering belief in God and his active role in the community. Mitch’s kindness, generosity, and ability to make those around him feel loved and valued will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mitch was preceded in death by his father, Roy M. Greene Sr.; his beloved daughter, Janie Lynn Greene; his brother, Dan Greene; his grandmother, "Mama Moore"; and his brother-in-law, Dan Heard. Each of these loved ones held a special place in Mitch’s heart, and their memories inspired the loving and adventurous life he lived.

In celebrating Mitch’s life, we honor a man who was not only a devoted son, father, brother, cousin, and friend but also a spirited adventurer who embraced life’s beauty with open arms. His love for his family, his faith, and the thrill of discovery will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
