Roy L. Dixon, Sr.

Roy L. Dixon Sr., 69, of Salem, AL, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. EST Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ray Cummings officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. EST at the funeral home. Active pall-bearers are Mark Freeman (brother-in-law), Billy Hilton (brother-in-law), Greg Sanders, Derek Griggs, Pete Garner and Tripp Henderson. Honorary pall-bearers are Bill Epps, Bill Stevens, David Barfield, David Lott, Alton Harpe, and Bobby Flora.

Mr. Dixon was born March 16, 1946 in Barbour County, AL, to his parents Milton and Verla.  He proudly served in the Marines in Vietnam. Later, he worked for Pratt-Whitney before retiring. He was Baptist by faith and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents Milton Dixon and Verla English Walker; stepfather, John Walker; beloved son, Michael Dixon; brother Bobby Joe Dixon and sister Cathy Portz.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sheryl Freeman Dixon; 2 sons, Roy L. Dixon, Jr. (Joy) of Salem, AL and Terry L. Dixon (Jennifer) of Clinton, MS; daughter-in-law, Dusti B. Smith (Les) of Sylacauga, AL; grandchildren, Colin Dixon, Hayden Dixon, Brodie Dixon, Brooks Dixon, Michayla Dixon, Blakely Smith and Peyton Paul; several loving nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
