Rudy Paul Pendergrass, 74, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Friday morning, June 28, 2024, in the comfort of his daughter’s home in Phenix City.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 am EDT on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Mr. Phil Fuqua officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Phenix City. A private burial will be held by his loving family at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
Mr. Pendergrass was born July 26, 1949, in LaGrange, GA, son of the late William Bullard Pendergrass and Omie Elizabeth Johnson Worthy. He was self-employed working in construction for many years using his skills and abilities serving contractors and friends in the surrounding area. He served our country honorably and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post 135 holding the position of Sargeant at Arms, he was also a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was gifted and artistic, known for his talents in drawing, engraving, calligraphy, and many other artistic gifts. He enjoyed fishing, spending time on the water, traveling, and dart board games winning many competitions, and was a well-known dart board champion; but his greatest prize and joy was spending quality time with all his family sharing special moments and memories. He was a Christian by faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Sara Stewart, Linda Pendergrass, Sharon Pendergrass, and Faye Pendergrass; brother, Stanley Pendergrass; and his stepfather, Durwood Worthy, who loved him as his own son.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Robinson and husband, Gary, and Tracey Wood; one sister, Gail Ridley and husband Gordon; two brothers, William “Bill” Pendergrass, and David Pendergrass, four grandchildren, Kayla Monteagudo (Edgar), Gary F. Robinson, III, Hunter Wood (Cammie) and SPC Douglas Holden Thrower (Eunice); fourteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members; long time beloved friend, Kate Smith, and many other caring friends.
